How are we different?

Natural Vitamin D3

Vitamin D3 naturally occurs almost exclusively in animal sources as the bioactive form of vitamin D. Plants, such as lichens and various fungi, contain only very small amounts of the much less effective form of vitamin D2. Lanolin, the wax found in sheep's wool, is a proven source for obtaining bioactive vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol). A multi-stage process, which includes gentle extraction and intensive purification, results in a highly pure crystallised D3 that is used as the active ingredient for our vegetarian Sunferol® D3 formulation.

All-trans Vitamin K2

Vitamin K2 exists in various molecular forms, which are referred to as MK-4 and MK-7 depending on the length of their side chains. MK-7 is considered the most effective form of vitamin K2, as it remains active in the body for an exceptionally long time and meets the functional K2 requirement even at low dosages. However, there are further variants within the MK-7 form. Only the trans form has full biological effectiveness. An active ingredient declared as "all-trans" must therefore consist of at least 98% vitamin K2 MK-7 in this effective trans form.

Special caution is required in the area of vitamin K2. Despite manufacturers' claims, widespread label fraud occurs here. Independent laboratory tests show that many supplements declared as "all-trans K2" often contain only small amounts of all-trans vitamin K2. Our original Sunquinone® K2 is a premium branded active ingredient, delivering an exceptionally high MK7 all-trans content of approximately 99.8%. This consistently high degree of purity is verified through comprehensive independent laboratory testing.

Absolute Purity: No Hidden Additives

Our branded active ingredients Sunferol® D3 and Sunquinone® K2 are specially manufactured for Sunday Natural – made from natural raw materials and with particular emphasis on purity and quality. For optimal intake and maximum stability, we suspend our premium D3 in MCT coconut oil. Conventional vitamin D3 active ingredients are often mixed with a whole range of questionable additives, including synthetic vitamin E, ascorbyl palmitate, silicon dioxide, modified starch, sucrose, denatured vegetable oils and maltodextrin. However, our vitamin D3 is specially manufactured according to our specifications, thereby avoiding such hidden additives. The purity of this raw material means only a small amount of bioactive vitamin E needs to be added as an antioxidant to ensure optimal stability and shelf life. To maintain the excellent quality of our products, they are regularly tested in an independent laboratory for active ingredient content, freshness and possible contaminants such as heavy metals.

MCT Coconut Oil for Optimal Absorption & Protection

Vitamins D and K2 are fat-soluble vitamins that can only be absorbed by the body when combined with fats. For this reason, Sunday Natural's vitamin D3 + K2 uses high-quality MCT oil as a carrier oil. In contrast to other carrier oils (such as olive oil), pure MCT oil offers optimal protection for fat-soluble vitamins, thus ensuring maximum stability of the active ingredients. The medium-chain fatty acids in the carrier oil constitute valuable nutrients themselves. Our oil, which is processed in the Netherlands, is grown without the use of synthetic plant protection products.

No Hidden Additives

As the only other ingredient, we use premium gum arabic as a pure, natural filler, sourced from cultivation without the use of plant protection products. In contrast to commonly used synthetic fillers like microcrystalline cellulose (which can contain nanoparticles), we use a natural, fibre-rich food as our filler.

For the capsule shells we use custom-made HPMC capsules that, unlike most other HPMC and pullulan capsules on the market, are 100% free from controversial additives such as carrageenans and PEG.

Effects

Vitamin D

Vitamin D3 naturally occurs almost exclusively in animal sources, particularly in fish, dairy products, eggs and meat. Plants, such as lichens and various fungi, contain only very small amounts of the much less effective form of vitamin D2.

Vitamin D plays a very important role in the body. It is one of the few vitamins that is not absorbed directly from food, but rather produced by skin cells from sunlight. It is not a vitamin in the traditional sense of the word, but rather a pro-hormone.

Vitamin D is still being intensively researched. New mechanisms of action of this fascinating vitamin are discovered almost every year. So far, the following statements on vitamin D have been released by the EU (EFSA):

Vitamin D contributes to:

  • Normal absorption and utilisation of calcium and phosphorus
  • Normal calcium levels in the blood
  • The maintenance of bones
  • The maintenance of normal muscle function
  • The maintenance of healthy teeth
  • Normal function of the immune system
  • Cell division

Vitamin K

Vitamin K is found in nature as vitamin K1 (phylloquinone) and vitamin K2 (menaquinone), with vitamin K2 appearing to be the more active of the two forms. Phylloquinone is mainly found in plants, while menaquinone is produced by some human intestinal bacteria or is found in foods fermented by microorganisms, such as sauerkraut or the Japanese dish natto.

Vitamin K2

Vitamin K2 activates a range of special proteins in the body that play a role in important metabolic processes, including the transport and utilisation of calcium, blood clotting, the regulation of cell division, cell differentiation, cell migration and important repair processes in various vessels and organs.

As far as their effects on the body, virtually every health authority currently treats the vitamins of the K group as one. Accordingly, statements released for vitamin K1 are also attributed to vitamin K2.

Vitamin K contributes to:

  • Normal blood clotting
  • The maintenance of normal bones

Vitamin K2 exists in various forms, which have different levels of effectiveness. Vitamin K2 MK-7 is considered by far the most effective form of K2 today. However, since vitamin K2 molecules occur in a variety of chemical arrangements (known as cistrans isomers of vitamin K2), there are considerable differences in efficacy even between different vitamin K2 MK-7 compounds. It is believed that only the trans forms can be utilised by the body.

Vitamin K2 & Vitamin D

Vitamin D and vitamin K2 are cofactors in the regulation of calcium metabolism. Together, the two vitamins form and break down bones as well as the important transport molecules which ensure the correct utilisation of calcium.

Dosage

Directions

Take 1 capsule every 20 days with 200ml with a meal.

Note: Not suitable for children under the age of 7.

Daily Requirements

Vitamin D3

The contradictory information surrounding daily requirements for vitamin D intake can be confusing. Daily recommendations vary greatly between different organisations and governing bodies. For example, the EU recommends a daily intake of 200 IU for adults, while the German Nutrition Society (DGE) recommends 800 IU.

However, numerous researchers and nonprofit organisations believe that these recommendations are too low and are not enough to prevent deficiency. An intake of at least 1500–2000 IU or 3000–6000 IU are recommended by the American Endocrine Society and the Vitamin D Council (USA), respectively.

Vitamin K2

Although the German Nutrition Society recommends a total intake of at least 70µg vitamin K per day, there are currently no recommendations for vitamin K2 specifically.

Note: Recent research shows that vitamin K1 and vitamin K2 have distinctly different profiles in terms of their effects. Vitamin K2 requirements have not yet been scientifically established, but are likely higher than those listed by the DGE. A complete carboxylation of Matrix GLA protein (MGP) and osteocalcin, which is the main function of vitamin K2, can be observed in doses starting from 100µg per day.

Food Supplement

Do not exceed the recommended daily intake. Food supplements are not a substitute for a balanced, varied diet and healthy lifestyle. Keep out of reach of young children.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat.
