Vitamin D3 products often contain a wide variety of different additives, including some which are highly questionable but are not legally required to be declared, such as synthetic vitamin E, ascorbyl palmitate, silicon dioxide, modified starch, sucrose, denatured vegetable oils and maltodextrin. Our authentic K2VITAL® vitamin K2 is one of the few active ingredients on the market which is guaranteed to contain at least 99.7% of the stated K2 content as highly effective all-trans MK-7. MCT Oil for Optimal Protection and Better Absorption

Since vitamin D and vitamin K2 can only be absorbed by the body in the presence of fats, the addition of a carrier oil makes a valuable contribution to fat-soluble vitamin preparations. We chose a particularly high-quality MCT oil for our carrier oil: based on coconut oil and produced in the Netherlands, it hardly breaks down the fat-soluble vitamins at all, unlike other oils such as olive oil or additives used to press tablets such as calcium carbonate. It also serves to protect the active ingredients, while the medium-chain fatty acids present in the carrier oil represent a valuable nutrient in themselves.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D3 naturally occurs almost exclusively in animal sources, particularly in fish, dairy products, eggs and meat. Plants, such as lichens and various fungi, contain only very small amounts of the much less effective form of vitamin D2.

Vitamin D plays a very important role in the body. It is one of the few vitamins that is not absorbed directly from food, but rather produced by skin cells from sunlight. It is not a vitamin in the traditional sense of the word, but rather a pro-hormone. In contrast to many other vitamins, vitamin D is converted into an important hormone which regulates cell functioning and bodily processes. Almost all bodily cells have special receptors for the vitamin D hormone that are dependent on sufficient supply.

Vitamin D and vitamin K2 are cofactors in the regulation of calcium metabolism. Together, the two vitamins control the formation and breakdown of bone cells and important transport molecules that ensure the correct utilisation of calcium. Our vitamin D3 and K2 MK-7 combines the two nutrients in a ratio that ensures optimal synergy.

Vitamin D is still being intensively researched. New mechanisms of action of this fascinating vitamin are discovered almost every year. So far, the following statements on vitamin D have been released by the EU (EFSA):

Vitamin K2 exists in various forms, which have different levels of effectiveness. Vitamin K2 MK-7 is currently considered to be by far the most effective form of K2. However, there are still considerable differences even between different vitamin K2 MK-7 active ingredients, as the vitamin molecule occurs in different chemical arrangements - these are known as cis and trans isomers of vitamin K2. It is assumed that only the trans form can be utilised by the body at all.

Daily Requirements

Vitamin D3

The contradictory information surrounding daily requirements for vitamin D intake can be confusing. Daily recommendations vary greatly between different organisations and governing bodies. For example, the EU recommends a daily intake of 200 IU for adults, while the German Nutrition Society (DGE) recommends 800 IU.

However, numerous researchers and nonprofit organisations believe that these recommendations are too low and are not enough to prevent deficiency. An intake of at least 1500 - 2000 IU or 3000 - 6000 IU are recommended by the American Endocrine Society and the Vitamin D Council (USA), respectively.

Vitamin K2

Although the German Nutrition Society recommends a total intake of at least 70µg vitamin K per day, there are currently no recommendations for vitamin K2 specifically.

Food Supplement

Do not exceed the recommended dose. Food supplements cannot replace a balanced, varied diet and healthy lifestyle. Keep out of reach of young children.
