Tribulus terrestris, often referred to as tribulus, is an annual, low, creeping shrub that grows to a maximum height of 60cm. Its small branches are covered with dense foliage, reminiscent of a fern and covered with hair. Burzeldorn blooms with intense yellow flowers. It is a thermophilic plant and is found in the Mediterranean region, in North African and European countries as well as in subtropical areas of India, China and South America. The fruits, seed capsules and leaves of tribulus can be eaten. It has also been used for thousands of years in Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine and in the folk medicine of southern European countries.
