These wild Swiss pines grow in the untouched nature of Tyrol, Austria at an altitude of over 2,000m. This windy alpine landscape is ideal for the pines, with its stimulating, dry climate and seasonal temperature fluctuations, which leads to a particularly concentrated and rich formation of valuable compounds and aromas in the trees, such as alpha- and beta-pinene.

The material, mostly damaged wood, is collected in the high altitudes by experienced farmers and brought to their own distillery in the valley. For the production of the essential oil, the branches and needles as well as the wood are gently steam distilled in a small stainless steel tank.

Swiss Pine

The Swiss pine belongs to the pine family (Pinaceae) and grows at altitudes of about 1,200m to 2,000m above sea level. The tree is known to grow up to 30m high and live up to 1,000 years old. Its soft and flexible dark green needles are 5-12cm long, and it produces small, upright cones which are purple to brown in colour. Because of the harsh conditions it endures, the Swiss pine tends to grow slowly. Aromatic compounds are found in its wood, twigs and needles.
