Finest Origin - Highest Grade

The sweet wormwood (Artemisia annua) used for this essential oil grows wild on the untouched Karst Plateau in southwest Herzegovina, Bosnia and Herzegovina. This area is rich in wild-growing medicinal and aromatic plants by virtue of its fertile terroir. This region is notable for its proximity to the Mediterranean Sea, its altitude, the characteristic terra rossa-covered limestone and the winds that dry out the Karst limestone. The Mediterranean climate with long, dry summers and short, temperate winters provide optimal growing conditions for the sweet wormwood to develop its special aromas and components. The herb is carefully collected by hand and brought to the onsite distillery while still fresh, where it is distilled by our highly skilled producers using a gentle steam distillation process.

Farm

This essential oil is produced by a small business based in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with extensive expertise in producing essential oils from wild-growing native plants. The producers have developed a unique method to collect the seeds without disturbing the plants' natural processes. The seeds are gathered from naturally occurring wild plants in Herzegovina, which are then grown into saplings in harmony with nature, and then replanted in their original natural habitat. These wild-growing plants are used to produce high-quality and pure essential oils.

Sweet Wormwood

Sweet wormwood (Artemisia annua) is an annual, single-stemmed herb with greenish-yellow flower heads and small, segmented leaves. The plant belongs to the daisy family (Asteraceae) and is native to China, the Middle East and south-eastern Europe, and it can now also be found growing wild in southern and central Europe. The name of the genus Artemesia is derived from Artemis, the Greek goddess of hunting, the forest and the moon. In traditional folk medicine, Artemisia annua is considered a female plant that watches over herb gardens and has healing properties, especially in relation to the uterus.

Aroma

This intriguingly complex, sweetly balsamic fragrance with layers of basil, aniseed and liquorice enhances our sense of psychic protection. It dispels sadness and helps restore inner peace, strength and confidence.
