This spike lavender (Lavandula latifolia) is grown organically in its native environment, the Mediterranean nature of Andalusia, Spain, at an elevation of around 800 metres. The plants are exposed to a special stimulating climate of hot, dry days, and cold nights and winds. Due to the specific location, soil and climate, the plants develop special natural ingredients and aromas, such as 1,8-cineole and camphor.
Our Spanish essential oil producer has been working with aromatic plants since 1996, which led to the founding of the small family business in 2004. The company's expertise lies in the production of essential oils from local plants on one hand, and in sourcing other oils from cooperatives around the world on the other hand. The quality and origin of the oils are therefore very well researched and documented. The local oils come either from the company's own controlled organic cultivation or from wild collection in the Andalusia region. The manufacturer distils the essential oils using steam in its own distillery and the products have thus been certified organic since 2004.
Spike lavender, also known as broadleaved lavender or Portuguese lavender, belongs to the Lamiaceae family and, along with true lavender, likes to grow at lower elevations below 600 metres. The evergreen perennial needs more sun and thrives on rocky, chalky soils. Spike lavender grows wild in southern European countries, where it can be found from Spain to southern France and Bulgaria. It can also be cultivated well in central and northern Europe, for example in Spain and France.
The intense aroma of spike lavender has a cleansing, vitalising and focus-enhancing effect. Spicy-sweet and subtle earthy flavours calm the mind.
