Unlike organic forms of selenium, some of which are incorporated into bodily proteins and are not directly available for selenium metabolism, sodium selenite is incorporated directly into selenoproteins, which are special proteins regulated through selenium metabolism, preventing it from accumulating in the body. In contrast, the incorporation of organic selenium into proteins is not regulated, which can lead to very high selenium levels if intake is consistent. Taken as recommended, sodium selenite is a very safe form of selenium which is directly bioavailable.
Our sodium selenite is an ultra-pure, pharmaceutical grade compound. Since sodium selenite does not exist as a pure compound, we have chosen to combine it with calcium carbonate. This is one of the most widely used compounds in the world, functions as a source of calcium and is also approved for use as organic foodstuff.
The filler, which is made of premium acacia fibre grown without pesticides, is the only additive. In contrast to microcrystalline cellulose, which is often synthetic and high in nanoparticles, we use a 100% natural and fibre-rich food as a filler. Our acacia fibre comes from sustainable, climate-neutral, resource-conserving and fair cultivation.
For the capsule shells we use custom-made HPMC capsules that, unlike most other HPMC and pullulan capsules on the market, are 100% free from controversial additives such as carrageenans and PEG. We then package this product in environmentally friendly amber glass jars.
