Finest Origin - Highest Grade

The Australian sandalwood tree (Santalum spicatum) used for this essential oil grows wild in the boundless, semi-arid bushland of South Australia. Indigenous to the region, the sunny and dry climate creates ideal conditions for the plant to develop its distinctive natural aromatic compounds, which include bisabolol, nuciferol and curcumene. During the winter months, the family-run business harvests the deadwood of the sandalwood tree. The essential oil is gently steam distilled on site.

Farm

The manufacturer of this special essential oil is a small, family-run business in south-eastern Australia which has been producing essential oils exclusively from wild-growing indigenous plants for over 25 years. The family uses ethical practices throughout production as well as supports sustainable harvesting, in keeping with the delicate ecology of Australia's arid regions. The indigenous essential oils are naturally and gently steam distilled to preserve the oils' structure and integrity.

Australian Sandalwood

Sandalwood belongs to the Santalaceae family. The species is native to temperate tropical climates such as India, Malaysia, Australia and the Pacific Islands. In Australia, a total of 10 varieties can be found, of which four are indigenous to the region. Preferring the semi-arid climates of Western and Southern Australia, Australian sandalwood (Santalum spicatum) thrives in loamy soils and rocky scrublands. The tree can reach heights of three to eight metres, has rough, grey bark and bears narrow greyish-green leaves up to 7cm long. Green and red flowers bloom sporadically along its branches after the typically dry region experiences rainfall. The aromatic wood and leaves were traditionally used by the indigenous people of Australia for a range of purposes, including incense. Australian sandalwood has been distilled for its fragrant properties since 1890, with the practice originating near Albany in Western Australia.

Aroma

Sandalwood's soothing, woody, sweet and balsamic aromas relax the body and mind. The calming, grounding fragrance brings thoughts into focus, attuning the body to meditative states and holistic relaxation.
