Resurrection Plant
The resurrection bush (Myrothamnus flabellifolia) is a woody shrub in the Myrothamnaceae family. The name "resurrection bush" comes from its long dormant period: for much of the year, this plant is withered in a bundle of reddish-brown stems, but as soon as it rains, the plant comes to life with small, light green leaves that catch the rain. The plant is important in African medicine and culture due to its rapid regenerative capacity. The leaves of the resurrection plant are traditionally used as a healing tea for many ailments. In the form of powdered leaves mixed with fat, it is used as a moisturising agent for the skin and is being scientifically researched by the cosmetics industry.
