For a consistently high iron content of 14mg per capsule, we use purely plant-based, natural iron from Indian curry leaves, koji mushrooms and buckwheat.
The curry leaves come exclusively from natural cultivation without the use of pesticides. The organic iron from curry leaves is obtained by particularly gentle water extraction, completely without the use of other solvents such as N-hexane, methanol or acetone and is therefore free from residues. Ongoing laboratory tests by the manufacturer also guarantee an iron content of at least 3% and the absence of heavy metals and pesticides. The iron from the koji mushroom (Aspergillus oryzae) comes from fermentation. In Japan, the noble fungus has been used for thousands of years to ferment and refine foods such as rice and cereals or to make miso and soy sauce. During fermentation, the iron is naturally stored in the cells of the mushroom. This produces a high-quality, mild source of iron with the same slow release and an iron content of at least 7%.
We also use sprouted buckwheat as another source of iron. During the germination process, the iron is incorporated into the natural cell matrix of the buckwheat. The buckwheat germ powder obtained in this way contains organic iron with very good bioavailability.
For maximum iron bioavailability, we add natural vitamin C from rosehip and acerola cherry. Vitamin C supports the absorption of iron in the intestine and ensures particularly high bioavailability of the plant-based iron. Our acerola powder comes from fruits grown without pesticides in Brazil. The nutrient-preserving freeze-drying process ensures an exceptionally high vitamin C content of 30% in the natural compound of the fruit without the need for extraction. The acerola powder is therefore naturally free from maltodextrin and other commercially available extracting agents.
The whole, ripe fruits of the rose hip (Rosa canina L.) are processed for our natural rose hip extract. By processing the whole fruit with skin, pulp and seeds, the natural ratio of valuable phytochemicals can be retained in the extract. A purely natural, vitamin C-rich extract with a particularly high vitamin C content of over 20% is obtained from the entire fruit by means of nutrient-preserving water extraction. No other solvents are used in the process so that the extract contains no residues. It is not uncommon for synthetically produced ascorbic acid to be added to rosehip extracts. Our product, on the other hand, is 100% natural, without any additives, which was confirmed by the University of Cologne (Centre for Accelerator Mass Spectroscopy) in a laboratory analysis.
For the capsule shells we use custom-made HPMC capsules that, unlike most other HPMC and pullulan capsules on the market, are 100% free from controversial additives such as carrageenans and PEG. We then package this product in environmentally friendly amber glass.
