Digestive disorders that come from a lack of enzymes, coenzymes and micronutrients (especially vitamins), as well as diseases of the small intestine and an unbalanced diet, usually lead to incomplete intestinal breakdown of carbohydrates and proteins. The resulting change in the pH value favours the growth and spread of pathogenic microorganisms into the upper sections of the small intestine. These germs consequently transform the excess metabolites into toxic degradation products (organic acids), which are eliminated via the kidneys.
Some of the metabolic by-products detected in the urine are markers for the intestinal infestation of a specific pathogenic germ.
