Our organic cranberries are hand-picked by local harvesters in the pristine forests and swamps of Latvia. The raw winters and climatic conditions of Northeastern Europe are well-suited to the wild growth of cranberries, which are indigenous to North America.
Only fully ripe cranberries that are bright red or dark pink are harvested in September and October. The berries are hand-picked by locals. The fields are not flooded as is common practice in highly cultivated cranberry plantations.
After the berries have been harvested, they are sorted, gently freeze-dried, and milled. The result is a bright pinkish red powder with a characteristically fruity and tart flavour and a slightly sweet touch. By gently freeze-drying the berries, the maximum amount of nutrients can be retained. Our Organic Wild Cranberry Powder is a nutritious raw food that can contribute to a balanced diet: just add to smoothies, porridge, cereal and other dishes for a refreshingly tart and fruity flavour.
We use environmentally friendly amber glass jars for the packaging of this product.
The cranberry (Vaccinium macrocarpon) belongs to the heath family (Ericaceae) and originates from North America, although it is now also grown in Northern Europe. Cranberries have long been used as a traditional natural remedy in North American cultures for supporting the immune system.
The small, round berries are bright red or pink, and distinctive for their fruity and tart flavour. These nutrients are retained in the powder as a result of gentle freeze-drying.
The cranberries for our Organic Wild Cranberry Powder are directly sourced from Latvia, where they are hand-picked in their natural habitats of forests and swamps. They grow in a rural region with sparse human population. Roughly 50% of the region belongs to a nature reserve that boasts climatic conditions similar to those of North America, which is where this variety originates from. All the cranberries are hand-picked, sorted and gently processed on-site. The ripe red berries are harvested between September and October when temperatures are between 5-20°C.
The cranberries are wild-grown to certified organic standards: absolutely no pesticides or artificial fertilisers are used.
