The knowledge of the Chinese tradition about the benefits and cultivation of vital mushrooms, which is more than 2000 years old, is unique. Even today, Chinese cultivars produce the richest mushrooms. Cultivation has been perfected to the point where cultivated mushrooms are in no way inferior to their wild grown ancestors. Our mushrooms come from Fujian in Gutian County, the world's most renowned region for vital mushrooms. Our partner farm is certified organic according to EU standards and attaches great importance to natural, traditional cultivation methods. The mushrooms are handpicked between July and October at the maximum level of content.

Mushrooms are composed of the fruiting body, which typically appears above ground, and the mycelium underneath. The most important nutrients are concentrated in the fruiting body. Products derived from the mycelium are frequently much cheaper because mycelia are cultivated faster, cheaper, and easier. Yet these products hardly contain any of the potent compounds of the mushroom. Our mushroom powders and extracts are exclusively made from the entire fruiting body of the mushroom (including the stem) and contain the full nutritional richness that the mushrooms have to offer.

Among the most valuable components of the vital mushrooms are the mushroom polysaccharides, especially the beta-1,3- and beta-1,6-D-glucans. Our mushroom extracts bundle these substances into a rich concentrate. They are extracted by the traditional method using only water, the purest and gentlest extraction process. As a result, they do not contain any residues of chemical solvents (such as acetone, N-hexane, methanol).

However, in contrast to extracts, which specifically separate certain ingredients from the overall compound, mushroom powders contain the full spectrum of all natural substances. To ensure that these nutrients are optimally bioavailable, our powder is gently ground according to the "shell-broken" method to a size of less than 0.1mm. This milling process breaks open the difficult-to-digest cells of the mushroom and makes their contents optimally available.

Tremella

Tremella (Tremella fuciformis)

Also known as snow fungus or white jelly mushroom, the tremella is one of the most popular mushrooms in Chinese cuisine and tradition. Its manner of growth is particularly fascinating as tremella is actually a form of yeast that alone cannot produce fruiting bodies. Tremella first exists in a mucous form and grows until it encounters a suitable host: a member of the Annulohypoxylon genus of fungi. When these two fungi meet, the tremella forms a parasitic relationship to its host, its cells merge with the host, and from this fusion a tremella mushroom can grow.
The tremella mushroom is known on the one hand for its culinary uses in Chinese and Taiwanese food, and on the other hand for its cosmetic uses as an ingredient in anti-ageing and beauty products. The vital mushroom has a much higher water-binding capacity than hyaluronic acid.

Cultivation

Our medicinal mushrooms are sourced from the renowned mushroom-growing region of Gutian County (600-700m above sea level), in Fujian, China. The cultivation of mushrooms is an age-old tradition in the region, as is reflected by the unparalleled quality of these mushrooms. The fertile land, sophisticated substrates, as well as the climate, all contribute to a uniquely nutritious end product. Moreover, these pristine lands are protected by dense mountain forests, thus providing an ideal environment for the mushrooms to thrive. Our untreated mushrooms are certified organically grown according to EU standards. They are grown to full maturity and hand-picked at the peak of their vitality, between July and October.

The mushrooms retain their raw quality as a result of gentle drying at temperatures below 40°C. This process preserves the delicate enzymes and potent vital substances of the mushrooms. To ensure that these valuable nutrients are bioavailable, the dried mushrooms are then gently milled. Thanks to our use of the "shell-broken" method, the powder attains a fineness of less than 0.125mm, which ensures that the compounds within the cells as well as within the chitin skeleton of the mushroom are optimally available. In this process, the entire fruiting body of the mushrooms is always used in order to fully exploit the wealth of valuable natural mushroom substances.

To further concentrate the beta-glucans contained in the mushrooms, the gently dried and finely ground fruiting bodies and stems of the mushrooms are processed into an extract. The extraction is carried out according to traditional methods using only water. Water extracts have been part of Chinese tradition and Western herbalism for centuries and have always been used to make plant extracts. They are among the gentlest extraction methods and result in a highly pure extract, without any residues of chemical solvents (such as acetone, N-hexane, methanol).
