How are we different?

We source the algae for our premium spirulina flakes from an organic farm in Italy. The company, one of the few in the EU which cultivates spirulina according to organic standards, uses fresh water from the nearby Alps rather than seawater. In contrast to conventional spirulina, commonly cultivated in unfiltered seawater, this spirulina contains no iodine and is unpolluted by microplastics. This also results in the development of its exquisitely sweet taste.

Our organic spirulina grows with natural light in tanks 20–30cm deep, filled with alkaline spring water which never exceeds 25°C. Harvesting and production is a quick, 1-day process undertaken on site. First, the aqueous spirulina solution is pumped into special tubs and carefully examined before being thoroughly filtered using a vibrating sieve. The algae is then pressed with special hydro pumps to remove most of the water, then rolled and pressed into small, 1.5cm long spaghetti-like strands. These are then dried at a maximum temperature of 38.5°C and ground into fine flakes. The entire production process does not require any extraction agents or additives. Due to the fast and gentle processing, the algae remains raw and the natural concentration of its valuable ingredients are optimally preserved.

Effects

Spirulina platensis

Spirulina platensis (Arthrospira platensis) is a cyanobacterium originating in Central and East Africa. Now also widespread in Central America, the algae has been in use for hundreds of years in the cuisine of its countries of origin. It is known for its extraordinary nutrient density; in fact, it even serves as a primary food source for some animals, such as flamingos. Depending on the environment and the water quality, spirulina develops different phenotypes and nutrient densities, and it can multiply rapidly given optimal conditions. While spirulina has been traditionally cultivated in the Pacific, where it benefits from its preferred alkaline and salty water, today it is cultivated worldwide in inland, man-made spirulina farms as well as in freshwater.

Directions

Take 1 teaspoon (2g spirulina) daily with 200ml water before a meal.
