How are we different?

Potent medicinal mushrooms have been grown in China for hundreds of years, and to this day the most nutrient-rich mushrooms come from Chinese cultivars. For over 2,000 years, the traditions of Chinese medicine have been applied to the cultivation of these mushrooms. Mushroom cultivation in China has been so refined that farmed variants are in no way inferior to their wild-grown counterparts. Our reishi mushrooms are sourced directly from the globally-recognised mushroom-growing region of Gutian County in Fujian. Our farming partner is organically certified according to EU standards and places a high value on natural, traditional cultivation methods. The mushrooms are carefully hand harvested between July and October for maximum nutritional value.

Mushrooms are composed of the fruiting body, which typically appears above ground, and the mycelium underneath. The most important nutrients are concentrated within the fruiting body. Products derived from the mycelium are normally considerably cheaper because mycelia can be cultivated faster, cheaper, and more easily. Yet these products barely contain any of the mushroom's most valuable nutrients. Our mushroom powders and extracts are exclusively made from the entire fruiting body of the mushroom (including the stem) and contain the mushroom's full nutritional richness.

In contrast to extracts, which can lose some of their nutritional value during processing, powders contain the full spectrum of nutrients and enzymes for a particularly strong adaptogenic effect. To ensure that the nutrients of the mushroom are optimally available to the body, we finely mill the dried mushrooms to a size of less than 0.125mm, according to the "shell-broken" method. This milling process breaks open the difficult-to-digest cells of the mushroom and makes their contents directly bioavailable.

REISHI

Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum, Ling Zhi, shiny lacquered mushroom)

Reishi, also known as lingzhi, is one of the most prominent plants in Chinese medicine. Its other names include "mushroom of immortality" and "mushroom of eternal life", which point to its significance in Chinese medicine as a foundation for general strengthening of the body and maintenance of good health and vitality.

According to historical artefacts and scripts, reishi has been used as a medicinal mushroom for approximately 4,000 years. In the 2,000-year-old Shennong Ben Cao Jing (also "Shen Long Ben Tsao"), one of the oldest known and handed-down Chinese pharmacopoeia, reishi belongs to the highest medical grade: "Divine Herbs", aand is often referred to as the "King of Herbs", and the "mushroom of immortality". On account of its rarity, the reishi was for a long time only available to the emperor and other high-ranking officials. Today reishi is one of the most popular medicinal mushrooms in the world.

Reishi grows best on the old, decaying trunks of deciduous trees such as oak and birch. The hemispherical, slightly heart-shaped cap of the reishi often has a glossy shine, as if lacquered. For this reason the mushroom is also known as the "glossy fungus" in some languages. Since the global demand for reishi far outweighs the quantity of wild-grown reishi available, this mushroom is cultivated in China.

Cultivation & Processing

Our medicinal mushrooms are sourced from the renowned mushroom-growing region of Gutian County (600-700m above sea level), in Fujian, China. The cultivation of mushrooms is an age-old tradition in the region, as is reflected by the unparalleled quality of these mushrooms. The fertile land, sophisticated substrates, as well as the climate, all contribute to a uniquely nutritious end product. Moreover, these pristine lands are protected by dense mountain forests, thus providing an ideal environment for the mushrooms to thrive. Our untreated mushrooms are certified organically grown according to EU standards. They are grown to full maturity and hand-picked at the peak of their vitality, between July and October.

The mushrooms retain their raw quality as a result of gentle drying at temperatures below 40°C. This process preserves the delicate enzymes and potent vital substances of the mushrooms. To ensure that these valuable nutrients are bioavailable, the dried mushrooms are then gently milled. Thanks to our use of the "shell-broken" method, the powder attains a fineness of less than 0.125mm, which ensures that the compounds within the cells as well as within the chitin skeleton of the mushroom are optimally available for absorption. The powder contains the full richness of enzymes, vitamins, minerals, and trace elements of the whole fruiting body of the mushroom.
