How are we different?

Potent medicinal mushrooms have been grown in China for hundreds of years, and to this day the most nutrient-rich mushrooms come from Chinese cultivars. For over 2,000 years, the traditions of Chinese medicine have been applied to the cultivation of these mushrooms for a host of medicinal uses. Mushroom cultivation in China has furthermore been so refined that farmed variants are in no way inferior to their wild-grown counterparts. Our oyster mushrooms are sourced directly from the globally-recognised mushroom-growing region of Gutian County in Fujian. Our farming partner is organically certified according to EU standards and places a high value on natural, traditional cultivation methods. The mushrooms are selectively harvested by hand between July and October for maximum nutritional value.

Mushrooms are composed of the fruiting body, which typically appears above ground, and the mycelium underneath. The most important nutrients are concentrated in the fruiting body. Products derived from the mycelium are frequently much cheaper because mycelia are cultivated faster, cheaper, and easier. Yet these products hardly contain any of the potent compounds of the mushroom. Our mushroom powders and extracts are exclusively made from the entire fruiting body of the mushroom (including the stem) and contain the full nutritional richness that the mushrooms have to offer.

In contrast to extracts, which can lose some of their nutritional value during processing, powders contain the full spectrum of nutrients and enzymes for a particularly strong adaptogenic effect. To ensure that these nutrients are optimally bioavailable, our powder is gently ground according to the "shell-broken" method to a size of less than 0.1mm. This milling process breaks open the difficult-to-digest cells of the mushroom and makes their contents directly bioavailable.

Oyster

Oyster Mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus)

Also known as the tree mushroom, the oyster mushroom is one of the most commonly consumed mushrooms. As a winter mushroom, the fruiting body of the oyster mushroom only begins to form in temperatures below 10°C, and ripens in the late autumn and early winter. It grows in groups on the sides of injured or decaying deciduous trees.

The oyster mushroom has a long history in Europe and has been mentioned in herbal books from the 16th century. It has been cultivated here for over 100 years. Alongside the standard mushroom and shiitake, oyster mushrooms are the most commonly cultivated mushrooms in the world.

Oyster mushrooms are nutritious and particularly high in protein. Approximately 1/4 of the dry substance of the mushroom consists of protein and this material contains almost all essential amino acids for humans. Additionally, the oyster mushroom contains vitamin C and D2, almost all B vitamins, and many minerals and trace elements.

One of the most important substances within the oyster mushroom is the beta-1,3/1,6-D-glucan pleuran, which is currently the focus of scientific research regarding its health benefits.

Cultivation

Our medicinal mushrooms are sourced from the renowned mushroom-growing region of Gutian County (600-700m above sea level), in Fujian, China. The cultivation of mushrooms is an age-old tradition in the region, as is reflected by the unparalleled quality of these mushrooms. The fertile land, sophisticated substrates, as well as the climate, all contribute to a uniquely nutritious end product. Moreover, these pristine lands are protected by dense mountain forests, thus providing an ideal environment for the mushrooms to thrive. Our untreated mushrooms are certified organically grown according to EU standards. They are grown to full maturity and hand-picked at the peak of their vitality, between July and October.

The mushrooms retain their raw quality as a result of gentle drying at temperatures below 40°C. This process preserves the delicate enzymes and potent vital substances of the mushrooms. To ensure that these valuable nutrients are bioavailable, the dried mushrooms are then gently milled. Thanks to our use of the "shell-broken" method, the powder attains a fineness of less than 0.125mm, which ensures that the compounds within the cells as well as within the chitin skeleton of the mushroom are optimally available for absorption. The powder contains the full richness of enzymes, vitamins, minerals, and trace elements of the whole fruiting body of the mushroom.
