These peppermint plants thrive in the tropical nature of India using controlled organic cultivation methods. In this pristine environment, the plants find optimal growing conditions, warmth, moisture, dryness and nutrient-rich soil. This allows them to develop their aromas and ingredients, such as menthol and 1,8-cineole, in a harmonious ratio. The freshly harvested plants are carefully selected, collected and processed in the local distillery using steam to produce this fresh, minty essential oil.
We source this essential oil from a renowned and certified producer located in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France. The company was founded in the early 20th century and today owns several essential oil crop farms worldwide, where the plants' origin and quality are well monitored. Production on these farms is passionate and adheres to the strict quality standards set by the French organic certification body EcoCert. After harvesting, the plants are either cold pressed or gently steam distilled in a stainless steel tank to release their essential oils.
Alongside field mint and spearmint, peppermint belongs to the labiate family (Lamiacaea) and grows mainly in the northern hemisphere, such as Asia and Europe. In the wild, the plants can be found growing wild in moist locations. The mint genus (Mentha) comprises around 30 known species. Peppermint is a hardy, perennial plant that grows up to 100cm high. On the underside of its light to dark green leaves, you can partially recognise the oil glands of the essential oils. It produces its white, pink to purple-coloured flowers as so-called false spikes from June to September.
The refreshing, strong aroma is said to have an invigorating, energising effect. Said to be helpful for managing stress, tension and mental exhaustion.
