Hemp Seeds
Hemp (Cannabis) is a member of the Mulberry family (Moraceae), a genus encompassing diverse wild and naturalised varieties. Hemp is an annual, dioecious plant, meaning a hemp crop consists of separate plants with either female or male flowers. Hemp has played a pivotal role as a raw-material crop across the world's great civilisations since early history. As far back as 12,000 years ago, it was cultivated as a grain crop in Persia and China. Hemp seeds contain protein, fats and carbohydrates, along with a high proportion of natural dietary fibre and valuable phytochemicals.
Cultivation & Processing
Hemp isn't particularly demanding in terms of climatic conditions and shows a high degree of adaptability. It typically reaches harvest readiness after around 100 days. The plants are either cut above ground or pulled out by the root. Hemp seeds are a valuable food source, containing up to 35% oil (extracted through pressing) and around 25% valuable plant-based protein. Our hemp seeds come from pesticide-free cultivation in Lithuania.
