Mango
Mangos were mentioned in ancient India as the "food of the gods;" fruit as a gift is still regarded as a sign of wealth. The mango tree can grow up to 35m high and produce fruit for over 300 years. Originally from India, the mango tree now thrives in all tropical regions of the world. Over 1000 varieties of mango have been cultivated, which differ by shape, size and flavour.
Banana
The banana (Musa cavendish) is the fruit of the evergreen herbaceous banana plant (also known as banana palm), which grows in clusters. The fruits of the banana plant are technically berries. The high content of complex and simple carbohydrates found in bananas makes them an excellent source of energy.
Carrot
The carrot (Daucus carota) is a wild plant native to Europe and belongs to the umbellifer family (Apiaceae). Originally from the region around Afghanistan, carrots are now cultivated worldwide. They are known for their bright orange colour, although there are also varieties in yellow, red, white and purple.
Maca
The famous maca plant (Lepidium meyenii) is a member of the cruciferous family. It belongs to the genus Lepidium and is therefore related to watercress, garden cress, rapeseed and mustard. Maca is native to the Peruvian Andes and has been cultivated there at high altitudes for around 2000 years. Maca is also known as Peruvian ginseng and is a staple food in the Andes. Primarily the tubers of the maca plant are used, which have a slightly sweet flavour.
