Spirulina platensis
The blue algae Spirulina platensis (actually Athrospira platensis) is not only especially rich in all essential amino acids with a protein concentration of 65-70%, but also contains numerous important minerals and trace elements such as iron, magnesium, and iodine, as well as folic acid and highly antioxidative bioactive plant pigments such as blue phycocyanin.
Algae Cultivation Under Ideal Conditions
Our organic spirulina is produced under strictly monitored conditions without the use of pesticides, herbicides, or chemical fertilisers, in a secluded natural area in southern India. Contamination from the surrounding environment is not an issue as the site is far removed from towns, agricultural lands, and industrial parks. The average high temperatures of southern India (30-39°C) in combination with low air humidity, low annual rainfall, and many sunny days create the perfect conditions for growing pure and nutritious spirulina.
Extremely High Content of Natural Plant Pigments
Plant pigments such as chlorophyll not only play a role in photosynthesis, but are also highly potent antioxidants. Our organic spirulina contains high concentrations of plant pigments as a result of its ideal cultivation conditions:
Xanthophyll | 250-470mg / 100g |
Beta-carotene | 150-250mg / 100g |
Carotenoids | 400-650mg / 100g |
Phycocyanin | 15,000-19,000mg / 100g |
Chlorophyll | 1,200-1,900mg / 100g |
Extremely Low Iodine Content
As a natural result of being freshwater algae, the iodine content of spirulina and chlorella is much lower than in sea algae. Iodine is therefore only present in trace amounts in our spirulina, which makes the daily consumption of these tablets safe. We additionally have the iodine content tested by the producer, which confirms a low concentration:
Iodine | 252µg /100g spirulina (1.26µg per tablet) |
Extremely Low PAH Content
The chemical group of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons is suspected to have a carcinogenic, mutagenic, and reprotoxic effect. PAHs are formed by the partial combustion of organic material, and they persist in the environment due to their stable and bioaccumulative character, which is how they enter the food chain and collect in fatty tissue. The EU has established a permitted value equal to 10mg/kg for critical polycyclical aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), such as PAH 4 for algae products (Regulation 2015/1993). Our ultra pure organic spirulina algae is well below these values, with less than 1.3µg/kg PAH 4, of which only 0.6µg/kg benzopyrene.
Free from Heavy Metals
With levels 1,000 times below the limit permitted by the EU, our organic chlorella tablets are virtually free from toxic heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, arsenic, and mercury.
Lead | 0.04mg / kg | max 3mg / kg |
Cadmium | <0.01mg / kg | max 1mg / kg |
Arsenic | 0.04mg / kg | max 1mg / kg |
Mercury | <0.01mg / kg | max 0.1mg / kg |
