Baobab is the fruit of the baobab tree, also known as the monkey-bread tree (Adansonia digitata). This tree is typical of the dry savannah, south of the Sahara in the African lowlands. Traditional African medicine has made use of all parts of the baobab tree for centuries.
Our baobab powder from wild-growing trees is a raw, vegan product. The fruit pulp of the baobab dries naturally during the ripening process. Once it is ripe, the fruit is hand-harvested, and the pulp separated and sieved. The pulp dries naturally, thereby retaining its natural nutritional content with no need for preservatives or additional processing such as freeze-drying or heat extraction.
Both the fruit pulp and the seeds of baobab are edible. The seeds are especially rich in fats while the ripe pulp takes on a tangy citrusy flavour with a touch of caramel. This unique flavour and especially the nutritional value of the fruit make baobab an exquisite superfood that is naturally alkaline and gluten-free.
