The wild frankincense trees are native to the semi-desert of Somalia and develop their complex natural ingredients and aromas, such as alpha-pinene, limonene and myrcene, under extreme climatic conditions. The resin is carefully harvested by hand from the uncut bark by experienced collectors, then sorted and processed in a local distillery.

We source this essential oil directly from a renowned manufacturer located in Provence, France. A pioneer in the field, the family-run business began producing essential oils in 1900. Their experience and passion is reflected in the high-quality products they create. The essential oils, which are either cold pressed or steam distilled, are derived from certified organic and/or wildcrafted plants. The family-run business distills the plants both directly on site and at its global cooperatives.

The frankincense tree belongs to the balsam family (Bruseraceae). Boswellia carterii is found in semi-desert areas of Arabia, Somalia and Ethiopia. It is a small tree with a sturdy trunk and papery, flaking, brownish bark. The flowers are whitish in single or branched racemes, the fruits have a triangular capsule. Frankincense, also known as olibanum, is obtained as a milky white emulsion by cutting into trunks and thick branches and hardens to resin in the air. Frankincense was traditionally used by various peoples for ritual and religious purposes.

The fresh and resinous scent of frankincense has a clarifying and uplifting effect. Its light, sweet notes offer a sense of security and create space for inspiration.
