Finest Origin - Highest Grade

The subalpine fir thrives in the south-west of Iceland. The region has a rather mild oceanic climate throughout the year, which is characterised by the influence of the warm Gulf Stream and Irminger Current. The land of volcanoes is characterised by notoriously changeable weather with strong winds and storms. These climatic conditions lead to the development of complex, natural ingredients in the essential oils of the trees, such as Β-phellandrene, 1,8-cineole and limonene. These components are responsible for the unmistakable, fresh, aromatic scent of Siberian fir oil. The exclusively fresh twigs and needles are sustainably harvested by hand. They are a by-product of existing sustainable forestry management, resulting from thinning and pruning. Immediately after harvesting, the twigs are distilled using gentle steam. Pure Icelandic water and green energy generated from waterfalls and geothermal water are used for distillation.

Farm

We source this essential oil from a passionate producer who runs a small essential oil factory in south-west Iceland. Most of the plant material is harvested by hand by her and family members. She is a qualified aromatherapist and also works in Iceland's state forestry sector. At the heart of her business is the protection of the unique nature of her region and her commitment to sustainability in her approach to nature and the production of her essential oils. No trees are felled for the production, instead she uses twigs and branches that are periodically left over from the pruning and thinning of forests as part of Icelandic forestry. The equipment she uses for distillation is recycled. She uses a 500-litre milk tank, a condenser and stainless steel pipes that she acquired from an old dairy farm. The small production quantities, the method of production and the regionality make her essential oils a little speciality among essential oils.

Subalpine fir

The subalpine fir (Abies lasiocarpa) is an evergreen coniferous tree from the pine family (Pinaceae) that is native to North America. The tree can reach a height of up to 50 metres, but its growth is smaller in harsh environments. The rock fir has a large distribution area, ranging from the northern Yukon Territory in Canada to the high mountains of Arizona and New Mexico, but it can also be found in some places in Iceland. For many Native American tribes in North America, this tree was involved in almost every aspect of their lives. Traditional medicinal uses include supporting the endocrine system (especially the adrenal glands and thyroid), caring for wounds, relieving respiratory ailments and fevers, and aiding digestion and internal cleansing. Rock fir was often used as a ceremonial medicine for psycho-emotional healing and had many everyday uses such as baby care, hair care, deodorant, for incense and as construction and firewood.

Aroma

The fresh, balsamic, pure aroma acts as a Qi tonic and helps to relax body and mind. The fragrance helps to reduce stress and supports healthy breathing.
