Finest Origin - Highest Grade

The citronella plants thrive in the vast, mountainous region of the Himalayas in Nepal, where our producer has been cultivating them according to organic standards since 2014. There, the climatic conditions, including heat, dryness and the quality of the soil, allow the plants to develop a harmonious balance of compounds including citral, eugenol and citronellol. The leaves are hand-harvested year-round. They are collected in baskets, then brought to the distillery, where they are processed into essential oil via steam distillation.

Farm

We source this essential oil from a small cooperative located in the Himalayas, in Nepal. The enterprise has been producing essential oils from indigenous plants since 2006, and unites several small farms. Each farm either cultivates its own plants to strict organic standards, or sources wildcrafted plants, sometimes growing at altitudes of up to 2,800m. The plants, which thrive in the vast, untouched nature, are harvested by hand and with sickles. They are then carried in baskets to local distilleries, where they are gently processed via steam distillation. The production process is a labour of love for the members of the cooperative, and the resulting products are of high quality. All essential oils from the producer are certified with the EU organic seal.

Citronella

Citronella belongs to the sweetgrass (Poaceae) family. It is mainly found in Asia and in tropical regions such as Madagascar. It has a citrusy scent similar to that of lemongrass. It grows densely in clumps and is a perennial plant, with partly purple leaves. It can grow up to 1.5m high.

Aroma

The intense, slightly tart citrus scent has a strong clarifying and refreshing effect, and contributes to a cheerful mood.
