The Buchu plants have been grown organically in their region of origin, the Western Cape Province of South Africa, by a family business since 2019. Located on the Cape of Good Hope, the province has a dry, temperate climate and is characterised by cold, stormy winds from the Atlantic Ocean in spring and summer. These special climatic conditions, coupled with mineral-rich soils, create the ideal conditions for the development of the unique active ingredients, such as isomenthone, limonene and diosphenols, for which this plant species is known. The sulphur active ingredients contained in the plant are unique in their combination and are reminiscent of the flavour of blackcurrant. The fresh, aromatic leaves and twigs are harvested in the late summer months of the southern hemisphere (February and March) and the highly pure essential oil is distilled using gentle steam.

Farm
The family business was founded in South Africa in 1993. It specializes in the cultivation, conventional and controlled organic, and wild collection of partly endemic essential oil plants. The cultivated plants thrive on their large farm near the coast, where they are harvested at the optimal harvest time and sorted as well as processed in their own production facility. The processing of the plants takes place in their own steam distillation plant. The quality of the products is high and certified. The family business cooperates worldwide and locally with South African tea and cosmetic companies.
Buchu
Buchu (Agathosma betulina) is a plant species from the rue family (Rutaceae), which, with around 140 species of the genus (Agathosma), is native exclusively to South Africa. Buchu is a shrub that grows up to two metres high and is endemic to the Western Cape region of South Africa. The richly branched twigs of the shrub bear light to yellow-green, round, leathery leaves and white, pink or purple-coloured star-shaped flowers. In the wild, the aromatic buchu shrub can be found on sandy soils at elevations of 300 to 700 metres. Buchu is a valued indigenous medicinal plant with many uses, and is considered a 'fountain of youth' as well as an insect repellent.
Aroma
The minty-fresh, berry aroma has a refreshing and strengthening effect on body and mind. It has a very mobilising effect and stimulates the drive for action. A real 'get up and go' oil.
