Human breast milk contains unique carbohydrate components called human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). HMOs are the third most abundant solid component in human breast milk after lactose and lipids, with 2'-fucosyllactose (2'-FL) being the most abundant HMO. Complex sugars such as HMOs are a valuable food source for gut bacteria, which contribute to a healthy gut flora. Additionally, HMOs are being researched for their potential benefits in modulating the intestinal flora, the immune system or their influence on nervous system development.
The HMOs that make up our 5 HMO Mix account for over 30% of all complex sugars found in human breast milk. 2'-fucosyllactose (2'-FL) is the most abundant HMO and 6′-sialyllactose (6′-SL) is the most abundant sialylated HMO; our complex is supplemented by two sugars belonging to each of these subgroups as well as lacto-N-tetraose (LNT), which represents neutral HMOs and makes up a large proportion of the HMOs. This balanced combination of HMOs represents the natural spectrum of human breast milk in the most diverse way possible.
Our exclusively vegetarian, particularly pure HMO is produced by microbial fermentation of vegan sources of carbohydrates and lactose from cow's milk. The purification via ion exchangers and filtration leads to a particularly high purity and excellent concentration of the ingredient; subsequent spray drying produces an end product with an HMO content of over 90%. This elaborate process guarantees a particularly high quality and pure product that is completely additive-free. With a lactose content of up to 3%, our product contains less lactose than normal cow's milk.
For the capsule shells we use custom-made HPMC capsules that, unlike most other HPMC and pullulan capsules on the market, are 100% free from controversial additives such as carrageenans and PEG. We then package this product in environmentally friendly amber glass.
