Human breast milk contains unique carbohydrate components called human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). HMOs are the third most abundant solid component in human breast milk after lactose and lipids, with 6′-sialyllactose (6′-SL) being the most abundant HMO of the sialylated oligosaccharide subgroup. The combination with 3′-sialyllactose (3′-SL) leads to a product that consists of the most important sialylated HMOs. Complex sugars such as HMOs are a valuable food source for gut bacteria, which contribute to a healthy gut flora. Additionally, HMOs are being researched for their potential benefits in modulating the intestinal flora, the immune system or their influence on nervous system development.
Our exclusively vegetarian, particularly pure HMO 3′- and 6′-sialyllactose have been produced by the microbial fermentation of cassava and lactose from cow's milk. The purification via ion exchangers and filtration leads to a particularly high purity and excellent concentration of the ingredient; subsequent spray drying produces an end product with an HMO content of over 84%. This elaborate process guarantees a particularly high quality and pure product that is completely additive-free. With a lactose content of up to 0.8%, our product contains significantly less lactose than normal cow's milk.
For the capsule shells we use custom-made HPMC capsules that, unlike most other HPMC and pullulan capsules on the market, are 100% free from controversial additives such as carrageenans and PEG. We then package this product in environmentally friendly amber glass.
